How to Choose Vehicle Seat Covers that Make Any Interior Pop

As much as a new car is better than a used one, it’s still not impervious to the world of aftermarket accessories. Aftermarket parts are considered to be of lesser quality than OEM ones and although there is a possibility, there is also the truth which is that there are quality aftermarket parts too. The fact that you need to make the search yourself shouldn’t make aftermarket parts inferior. In fact, they’re not only more affordable and more widely available but also can be found with a greater quality than that of an OEM part for the same price. The same goes for car seat covers too.

Benefits of Seat Covers

Protection

Although not their primary goal, seat covers are able to protect the seats from all sorts of nuisances. These include dirt, dust, spills, sharp objects, UV rays and mud. Most car seat covers a shop offers are able to do that and more without paying extra for the OEM appearance or fitment and still get both.

Appearance

The main purpose of a car seat cover is to make the interior a lot more enjoyable. There are plenty of designs and colours to choose from when it comes to car seat covers be it if you want to keep things simple or make the cabin look like it’s straight from the 1980s.

Cleanliness

With covers over your seats, you get to preserve them in the best possible condition without too much hassle. This way not only are you going to have mint seats for as long as you have the covers on them, but you’ll also be able to keep your interior much cleaner a lot easier. Cleaning covers can be a walk in the park.

Types of Seat Covers

Leather

One of the most luxurious and stylish car seat cover materials you can find is leather. Leather covers are made to increase the comfort levels of your seats and improve the appearance of the cabin. But keep in mind that they’re quite expensive and not as easy to clean as some other types of covers.

Nylon

Tough as nails yet easy to keep clean and as affordable a material gets, Nylon covers are the best when it comes to offering protection from sharp objects and rugged looks. What you shouldn’t expect here is obviously good comfort levels or a stylish cabin.

Neoprene

With neoprene car seat covers you get breathable yet waterproof covers that are quite comfortable. They do blend in with most interiors but neoprene covers are not by any means stylish or as easy to clean as ones made of Nylon.

Mesh

The most breathable covers in a car seat covers shop that you’ll come across are made of mesh. Mesh is also rather comfortable but it’s nothing to be bragged about when it comes to making your cabin a more enjoyable place. However, mesh covers are quite easy to clean.

Canvas

Another type of tough material used to make seat covers is canvas. Canvas covers are close to the ruggedness of nylon and look as tough but like nylon they’re not as stylish or as comfortable as some of the above covers. Canvas covers are easy to clean though.

Denim

The material your jeans come made of can also be found in seat covers with one extra ingredient and that is a foam backing. On its own, denim can be quite rough for car seat covers but with a soft backing, it becomes a comfortable and waterproof material that can be cleaned rather easily.

Velour

Most car manufacturers go for Velour for their seats but if yours aren’t made of Velour you can cover them up with it which means you get a minimalistic look and reasonable comfort levels. Don’t expect anything major in the style department or breathability.

Jacquard

Similar to velour covers, covers made of Jacquard come with a heavy-duty centre panel that offers better protection from spills and sharp objects. The rest is all the same with a similar design being found on Jacquard covers to that of Velour ones.

Sheepskin

With sheepskin covers you get the most comfortable material to sit on and the most cumbersome to clean. Sheepskin is quite breathable too and it can keep you warm rather easily. It also looks quite luxurious but it’s not rugged by any means.

Acrylic Fur

An imitation of sheepskin covers are acrylic fur covers which are still rather comfortable and stylish but they are not even close to that of sheepskin covers. They are however more affordable and easier to clean but gain nowhere as easily as Nylon or canvas.

Universal vs Custom

The main difference between universal and custom car covers is their fitment. The latter fits only on a few seat designs or only one while the former can be fitted on many. This means you get to pay less but do more work when installing or removing the seats. With custom covers, you get better looks though.
